About the Role
A+E Networks UK are looking for an experienced Media Technician for our Technical Operations team. Your duties will include (but are not limited to): taking receipt of content, import and ingest, performing QC, delivery of longform and shortform to transmission, and utilising internal systems for content monitoring.  

You will have good knowledge of automated QC software, be highly organised and have proven experience in a fast-paced digital asset environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Take receipt of longform and shortform media from suppliers.  Download, import / ingest to the Asset Management System (AMS).  Register these assets within the AMS.

  • Update systems where required by logging received content including video and audio files, and any physical assets.

  • Perform QC on media ensuring high technical quality according to standard EBU regulations and A+E Networks technical specifications.  Report any QC fails or technical issues with content that may require re-delivery.

  • Deliver longform and shortform transmission materials to all playout providers across EMEA.

  • Use internal automated systems to monitor media across QC, and deliveries to transmission.

  • Act as first point of contact for any content related issues or queries from playout and service providers.  Troubleshoot accordingly.

  • Troubleshoot any technical issues raised with internal systems or software prior to escalation with Engineering dept.

  • Use available systems to contribute to, and collate statistics for weekly and monthly reports.

  • Complete any file creation and delivery requests submitted to Technical Operations, ensuring that these requests are actioned in a timely manner.

  • Action all encode and transcode requests in a timely manner using internal software.

  • Prepare and deliver a shift handover to all members of the Technical Operations team that fully conveys work completed and work outstanding.

  • Respond to emails and email requests in a timely and professional manner.

  • Consistently contribute to the organisation of the department mailbox.

  • Request or provide ingest of any legacy longform when required.

  • Ingest legacy shortform when requested to accommodate creative post production work

  • Update metadata against existing assets within the AMS to enrich the system.

  • Assist in creation and delivery of languaging materials to LSPs where required.

  • Assist in the auditing of tape assets when required including identifying stock for wipe / recycle and destruction, as part of A+E Networks UK content archive.

  • Ensure that any tape content is returned to storage vaults.

  • Various other duties deemed appropriate to the role.


About You
Personal Specification
 
Essential:
  • Sound knowledge of various media formats
  • Detailed knowledge of technical QC standards
  • Knowledge of AQC software
  • Knowledge of ingest / digitising media using broadcast tools
  • Good communication skills to liaise with other departments and convey information clearly
  • Good problem solving skills
  • Good use of time management in order to complete tasks / achieve objectives within specified / business
  • Experience of working within a Broadcast Operations role
  • Demonstrable ability to complete work to high standards, with attention to detail.
  • Proven experience in a fast-paced digital asset environment 
  • Highly organised, self-motivated with excellent initiative
  • Embraces technological change
  • Proactive nature
  • Ability to form good working relationships.
 
Desirable:
  • Experience using AMS / MAM systems
  • Experience using Baton AQC software and media player
  • Experience using Adobe Premier Pro
  • Understanding and experience of media storage / hosting
  • Educated to degree level.
