About the Role
Job Summary:
  • To manage and be responsible for the day-to-day operation of the Equipment Preparation departments
  • To provide the rental operation, in a timely manner, with equipment prepared to the highest possible standard which is fully tested and inspected in accordance with company/ statutory requirements
  • To achieve this by the efficient and effective use of the resources under your control and through training and developing personnel and processes to increase capability
  • To build strong productive relationships within your department and across the organisation to improve performance of the areas under your control
  • To assist internal and external customers to provide support and information specific to your areas of responsibility
  • To  be an  effective member of the senior management team, helping to build a successful and profitable organisation
  • To direct, control and motivate staff and be accountable for their management.
Essential duties & responsibilities include but are not limited to the following. (Additional duties may be assigned from time to time):
  • To assume full operational and budgetary responsibility of the Equipment Preparation departments
  • To work with your team and internal and external customers in order to provide the required 'to the bay' service
  • To ensure that agreed procedures in respect of QC, testing and inspection are adhered to and that equipment provided by departments under your control is safe and fit for purpose
  • To take ownership of any departmental performance measures with a need to continually improve performance
  • To be available to provide technical or operational support and feedback to internal or external customers to resolve issues relating to your department's output, whether inside or outside normal working hours
  • To maintain test equipment and relevant tooling to enable your departments to work effectively
  • In conjunction with the Technical Manager and Health and Safety Manager work to define improvements to test and inspection protocols and facilitate their implementation
  • To evaluate the operation of the departments under your control and identify any changes whether structural or personnel related that will improve operational effectiveness and encourage staff morale
  • To bring forward proposals on how best to make improvements and to agree a course of action with the relevant stakeholdersTo implement change within agreed budgetary and time constraints
  • To lead, coach, motivate and retain your workforce so as to create sustainable career development opportunities for your staff
  • To evaluate the training needs of your staff  so they can undertake their work most effectively
  • To work with the Health and Safety Manager and others to arrange and implement additional training where required including production of relevant documentation to allow future retraining to a consistent standard
  • To assist the Technical Manager in identifying equipment which falls below the desired level of quality and to work together to agree a corrective course of action
  • To liaise with the Technical Manager to assist in setting repair priority to make most effective use of the Company's engineering resource and therefore minimise avoidable shortages
  • To keep abreast of technology  and working methods to allow informed decisions to be made regarding the equipment and processes under your control
  • To assist in other projects and provide support where your knowledge and expertise will be useful
  • To provide technical support to department staff and external customers whilst training is underway to enable them to become self-sufficient
  • To manage, in conjunction with supervisors, the availability of the Equipment Preparation department staff in line with the demands of the business i.e., rotas, holidays,managing overtime etc ensuring that the correct levels of resource are available to meet the demands whilst also focussing on reducing and minimising departmental costs e.g., overtime, etc.
  • To effectively manage, in conjunction with the HR Department, HR issues, following the established procedures with the ability to conduct disciplinary hearings in a professional manner up to final written warning stage and dismissal
  • To  focus  on  maintaining your team's expected high levels of performance in respect of attendance (both timekeeping & absence) and to lead by example
  • To ensure,through management and example, safe working practice within departments under your control
  • To understand, implement and fully support company procedures throughout the employee life cycle particularly in the areas of recruitment, attendance and discipline including performance reviews and grievances.
About You
Key Requirements:
  • A technical degree, ideally in electrical, electronic or mechanical engineering
  • Demonstrable skills in Human Resource management
  • Experience of one of the following sectors: equipment rental, logistics or engineering
  • A minimum of five years' experience in a senior managerial post
  • A proven track record of effectively leading in a multi-disciplined service oriented organisation
  • An action oriented and flexible approach to management
  • A self starter with strong inter-personal, communication and motivational skills
  • An analytical and effective decision maker with the  ability to prioritise,  communicate  key objectives  and organisational goals
  • A professional self-motivated individual with the ability to generate respect and trust from staff, colleagues and customers
  • The willingness and ability to learn all aspects of the Companies operation and systems,including the company inventory and the lighting industry, so as to lead from the front.
