Broadcast Engineer

What will you be doing?
Your duties will be wide and varied. They will include: project management of changes, upgrades and cross-department workflow and process improvements, working with department heads, lead the program of continuous improvements in technology and workflow within the edit, audio, media operations and languaging teams, as well as keeping abreast of trends and developments within IT and broadcast technology that could help steer the department roadmap in line with what the market has to offer.

Key Responsibilities

The key responsibilities for this role are:

  • To provide second and third level support for all asset management, post production systems and associated IT equipment.

  • Manage and prioritise issues by urgency and/or escalating as appropriate.

  • Document, analyse and improve workflows across the facility.

  • Work with internal stakeholders to own the change management process, from creating and managing change specifications, planned and emergency maintenance.

  • Project management of changes, upgrades and cross-department workflow and process improvements.

  • Carry our technical procedures as part of incident, problem and change management processes

  • Working with department heads, lead the program of continuous improvements in technology and workflow within the edit, audio, media operations and languaging teams.

  • Perform systems analysis, design solutions and build business cases to deliver change within the facility

  • Build and nurture strong internal, external and vendor relationships.

  • Keep abreast of trends and developments within IT and broadcast technology that could help steer the department roadmap in line with what the market has to offer.


Person Specification

  • Degree-level qualification in engineering, computer science/media technology or equivalent experience

  • Sound understanding of IT and broadcast IT systems and software

  • Excellent communication skills with open approach to imparting information in an understandable manner to people of all levels across the business

  • Knowledge of video formats and transcoding

  • Knowledge of IT service management principles; incident, problem, change, continual improvement

  • Extensive practical experience within either a broadcast or post-production environment

  • Experience of working with Avid or Adobe (post production and media management), Asset Management and Media File delivery tools

  • Experience of managing IT infrastructure, storage and networks

  • Experience of Project Management in a broadcast or technical environment.

  • Experience of Python or Ruby coding.
