In-house Legal Counsel

CGTN – the China Global Television Network, its English channel, and its digital media platforms were launched on December 31, 2016.

CGTN’s aim is to provide objective, balanced, and impartial news and current affairs content, reporting the news from a Chinese perspective. We aim to differentiate ourselves from leading Western media organization by pursuing a larger international vision; focusing on nations, regions, and stories often ignored by western media.

Our London office at Chiswick Park houses a well-staffed, digital and television hub producing news, online, and other content to feed into our global English language platforms.


We are now seeking an in-house Legal Counsel to join the team in London.

Key responsibilities:

  • Contract Management:  Ensuring the provision of excellent drafting; negotiating and management of contracts with  suppliers in a timely and effective way.
  • Intellectual Property Management: Developing IP regulatory policy; responsible for video production & copyrights related procurements; engaging in trademark registration; supporting HQ and subsidiary bodies for copyrights management.
  • Key Projects Support: Delivering timely and high quality legal advice to the business all in a practical and commercially focussed way in relation to all relevant matters that reduce risk, resolve issues and maximise the opportunity for the business to deliver on its goals; engaging in overseas projects; supporting immigration issues for expatriates.
  • Compliance and Regulatory Policy Management: Ensuring compliance with all of the policies and procedures and relevant legislation and regulation; developing company policies and procedures.
  • Corporate Information Management: Monitoring and recording changes on company registration; conducting annual corporate information disclosure; applying and monitoring specific licenses.
  • Daily Support: Providing accurate and timely counsel to employees in a variety of legal topics; resolving daily issues with different departments.


With an academic background in law, you will have prior working experience at multinational corporations, preferably within the media sector and ideally with some experience of dealing with Chinese companies.


You will also: 

  • Have knowledge of the legal and regulatory framework particularly in EMEA; experienced in compliance; ability to specify internal governance policies and regularly monitor compliance.
  • Be experienced  as a legal counsel in house or at a legal firm.
  • Be experienced at MS Office and have excellent written communication skills
  • Be able to work fast and error free.
