Creative Producer (Opera)

The Creative Producer (Opera) has responsibility for creating and realising bold, adventurous projects in the Linbury within the parameters of the Royal Opera Strategy.

Who we are:

The Royal Opera Company is one of the world`s leading opera companies, based at the Royal Opera House in London`s Covent Garden. The company was founded in 1946 and has since produced a wide range of operas, from classical to contemporary, in various languages and styles. 


The aim is to engage and delight both new and existing audiences, telling stories through performance that are entertaining, inspiring, challenging and diverse on both our Main Stage and in the Linbury Theatre.


The role:

The Creative Producer (Opera) has a key role to help guide and drive the RO`s artistic strategy, the Royal Ballet and Opera`s organisational priorities, and advise the Director of Opera on artistic matters.


The Creative Producer (Opera) will generate ideas for and lead on new commissions, potential collaborations and partnerships, as well as community outreach and education projects, in line with key RBO Executive stakeholders. They will also lead on developing the crucial contemporary opera strand within the Linbury, in consultation with the Director of Opera, nurturing and sustaining the UK contemporary opera ecology.


What you`ll bring:

This role will suit an experienced professional who is innovative, has an exceptional eye and ear for artistry and will contribute to strategic conversations about the RO programming. They will be a strong leader, able to demonstrate:

  • Exceptional artistic instincts, especially in relation to productions, directors and composers, with knowledge of the UK and international contemporary opera scene.
  • Exceptional knowledge of the ecology of contemporary opera (UK and European), of the UK theatre scene and wider arts sector.
  • Well established experience of the process of opera producing, with significant experience of financing, brokering and negotiation of co-productions and collaborations in the performing arts sector.
  • Experience of developing and maintaining an outstanding network of key contacts in the opera world.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, negotiation and influencing skills, with a style that will inspire the trust and commitment of others.
  • The ability to keep an overview of multiple productions and projects for several years of future planning, with a firm commitment to the principles of diversity and inclusion.

  • Permanent Contract
  • Full time: 40 hours per week (we are open to conversations about flexible/part time working for qualified candidates)
  • Salary starting from £58,000 per annum FTE
  • Based in: Covent Garden, London.
