Media Planning Assistant (Airtime Planner)

We're seeking a strategic Airtime Planner who will be responsible for delivering the promotional and navigational plans for our channels.  



The key objective being the increase of viewership across all brands. The role sits within the On-Air Planning department and works closely with peers within Presentation, Commissioning, Continuity & Navigation & Strategic Planning.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Create and co-ordinate effective promotional media plans in conjunction with business and marketing priorities.

  • Create continuity makelists; driving viewing and navigating viewers across our portfolio

  • Forecast airtime inventory on data channels to ensure all campaigns can be supported at an effective level.

  • Monitor channel and campaign delivery, and adjust levels accordingly.

  • Work with the Presentation team to ensure that campaigns are being delivered in line with what’s planned.

  • Carry out post-campaign analysis reports and evaluation to determine the success of campaigns, ensure we’re always learning from past campaigns.

  • Research all available data and audience profiles to maximise audience awareness.

  • Build creative and strategic media plans for priority campaigns, seeing them through from inception through to post campaign analysis.

  • Implement strategies set by the Media planning manager for relevant markets.

  • Analyse audience data effectively through an understanding of audience insight and behaviours.

  • Ensure maximum efficiency in make-list production requests and liaise with the Acquisitions & Commissioning team on cross territory campaigns

  • Work with colleagues in the International offices to deliver on the agreed channel objectives and be POC for queries.

  • Work closely with all teams within On Air to ensure the overarching strategies are being followed.

  • Alongside the rest of the On Air team monitor the output of the channels and promotional elements.

  • Assess and review research analysis provided by the Research team to influence long term planning decisions and direction.

  • Provide support to the Media Planning Manager across multi-territory projects and ad-hoc departmental projects.

  • Support the On-Air Planning team in the implementation of any new systems.



  • Strong computer skills: working knowledge of Excel, PowerPoint, and Word etc.
  • Good communication skills; to liaise with others and convey information clearly
  • Good time management and organisation skills
  • A good understanding of maths, and interest in working with data.
  • Knowledge of broadcasting standards
  • Knowledge of European broadcasting standards and operators
  • Specific knowledge of A+E Networks UK programming.
  • Relevant previous experience within a broadcast environment.
  • Sound editorial judgement
  • Experience managing workload and working across multiple projects and deadlines
  • Experience of using Techedge or similar system
  • Previous Media Planning experience.
