QC & Edit Operator (Media/Content Operations)
Experienced Broadcast QC Operators required!

Prime Focus Technologies has opened a state-of-the-art Media Centre in Leeds to deliver services for Channel 4. 
We are looking for the following skills & experience to expand our team: 
  • Experience of ‘full tech’ QC for UK broadcast
  • Expertise with Adobe Premiere
  • Ability to use waveform monitors & audio metering for signal analysis.
  • Ability to assess content to identify technical faults accurately and recommend fixes
  • Knowledge of common file formats (e.g., DPP AS-11, MXF, MOV, AVCi, IMX/D10, DNxHD)
  • Knowledge of common video and audio defects
  • Knowledge of UK DPP QC standards and quality thresholds
  • Knowledge of ITU-R 5-point scale for reporting faults and impairments of video and audio quality
  • Ability to interpret automated QC reports from Vidchecker and Baton
  • Ability to remaster content and repair QC defects (including PSE, replacing clocks/slates & closing breaks)
  • Experience of using a MAM to record accurate QC and timecode data.
  • Knowledge of post-production workflows for broadcast.

Purpose of the Role:
Media Operators view a range of media formats, reviewing and judging technical compliance of the content against defined standards, recording accurate detailed technical and descriptive information into the systems and performing fixes and re-mastering (editing) of the content.

Principal Accountabilities:
  • Ingest, review and process content accurately to meet deadlines according to agreed standards
  • Ingest video tape from legacy formats, lining up playback and cleaning heads
  • Accurately identify and quality check material for technical and content compliance, identifying defects and recommending solutions. This includes an objective “full technical/eyeball” review against DPP and client technical standards documents and “three point/spot checks”
  • Correctly and professionally use tools for measurement, display and processing of video and audio (including PSE and loudness checking & certification)
  • Accurately enter detailed technical and content information into systems, including content descriptions for search engine and scheduling purposes
  • Perform video/audio editing to fix faulty or failed media (when approved by the customer/Team Leader), and create new versions of programmes if required. This may include adjustments to allow the content to pass PSE and loudness checks
  • Swiftly and carefully process high value or short timescale material, ensuring proper focus, identify risks and escalate appropriately
  • Develop excellent relationships with colleagues at all levels, focusing on teamwork and supporting others.  Demonstrate excellent communication skills
  • Respond to changing priorities from the customer or other departments
  • Follow content and data security procedures and policies to ensure the confidentiality of our customers’ content
  • Ensure detailed handovers are prepared and communicated at the end of each shift
  • For physical media (tapes or hard drives), maintain well organised physical libraries, adhering to health & safety procedures, including those for lifting and handling and for the storage of physical tape Handle video tapes and video tape machines according to best practice. Ensure arriving hard drives are quarantined until after virus checks are complete
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of the operation.
  • Perform regular housekeeping and operational testing of all relevant systems.

Experience, Knowledge & Skills Required:
  • Experience in a similar role in media/television/post-production/media operations is essential (training will be provided on CLEAR™)
  • Demonstrable knowledge of video & audio file formats, codecs & standards, particularly UK DPP AS-11, AVCi100, IMX/D10 and DNxHD
  • Demonstrable ability to read and interpret waveform monitors and audio meters to perform accurate signal analysis
  • Ability to interpret automated QC software reports (e.g. from Vidchecker and Baton) identify problematic frames or sections, understand and correct a problem
  • Demonstrable experience as QC operator, able to review & classify content according to industry standards (the ITU 5 point scale for faults and impairments)
  • Experience with video processing tools - transcoders & standards converters
  • Demonstrable ability to perform basic video edits using Adobe Premiere (or similar)
  • Knowledge of physical video tape formats, experience of handling tape, operating and lining up video tape machines is desirable
  • Experience of working with software workflow orchestration tools, media asset management systems and MSOffice
  • Experience dealing with confidential, high value broadcast files for transmission deadlines is desirable
  • Ability to understand other European languages is desirable (for QC of non-English content).

Hours of work:
To support the nature of our customer’s operation, this role requires shift work covering 24hrs a day, 7 days a week at our Leeds Media Operations Centre.
