Live Simulcast & VOD Operator (Online/Non-Linear Services)
Prime Focus Technologies is opening a state-of-the-art Media Centre in Leeds to deliver Media & Online services for Channel 4.

About the Role
The Live Simulcast & VOD Operators will monitor online simulcast streaming, turnaround of live programmes for on demand, and automated VOD package creation for Channel 4 services. 

Watching output, performing spot-checks and responding to alarms, alerts or reports, the role will coordinate with other teams, Channel 4 and other service providers, logging exceptions and tracking any issues.  

As part of the team responsible for the operation of end to end media workflows, the Operators will work with a range of systems, including CLEAR™, Harmonic, Elemental, AWS and other industry standard toolsets to deliver an efficient, accurate and professional service.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • To control and monitor all services/platforms, performing spot checks to quickly identify any problems or exceptions. To respond to alarms & alerts and pro-actively check services are functioning correctly. This includes both simulcast (linear to online) and non-linear packaging services.
  • To swiftly and accurately respond to visual or audio alarms, email alerts, email reports and phone calls, including from the customers and staff.
  • To coordinate with appropriate support teams, Channel 4 or other service providers to resolve any problems or issues quickly and effectively.
  • To ensure that standard operating procedures are correctly followed.
  • To accurately record detailed logging information into systems, including irregularity reports, actions taken and resolution times to facilitate both internal reporting and reporting to the customer.
  • To provide shift, daily and monthly reporting to Operations and Technical staff on the service availability and accuracy and routine reporting for customers.
  • To train colleagues or freelancers on new procedures and systems as and when they arise.
  • To suggest positive changes and contribute to continuous improvement of the operation.
  • To maintain regular housekeeping and operational testing of all relevant systems.
  • To develop and maintain excellent relationships with colleagues at all levels, focusing on teamwork and supporting others. To demonstrate excellent communication skills and emotional intelligence.
  • To follow all content and data security procedures and policies at all times to ensure the confidentiality of our customers’ content. To escalate immediately should any risk be identified.
  • To ensure detailed handovers to colleagues are prepared and communicated at the end of each shift.
  • To deputise for other team members during shifts to ensure continuity of cover (e.g. while they are on breaks) and assist with responding to Channel 4 enquiries during busy periods

About You

Experience, Knowledge & Skills Required:

  • Training on systems and standard operating procedures will be provided.
  • Previous experience in a similar role in media/television/online/streaming and/or non-linear media preparation and packaging and delivery is desirable.
  • Experience monitoring mission critical systems in an operational setting, especially online/non-linear/on demand media or having completed a relevant educational course is desirable.
  • Previous experience of dealing with client enquiries in an operational setting is desirable.
  • Understanding and interest in the industry, particularly in workflows and systems to deliver media and online/non-linear services is essential.
  • Experience of working with software tools, especially asset management systems and automated media packaging and delivery platforms is desirable.
  • Must be an experienced Microsoft Office user and internet & technology savvy.
  • Previous experience of writing incident logs/exception reports desirable.
  • Previous experience in media companies and dealing with confidential, high value content is desirable.

Hours of work:

  • To support the nature of our customer’s operation, this role will require shift work covering 24hrs a day, 7 days a week once services commence.
