Social Media Editor - Capital
In this role, you'll help manage and contribute social media and editorial output for Capital.

The role reports to the Digital Managing Editor of Capital & Audience Development Director.

Overview of job
The purpose of this role is to help manage and contribute social media and editorial output for Capital. You’ll focus on developing Capital’s presence across key social platforms through the creation and optimization of content for social. Strong writing and video editing skills are essential for this role, as well as a passion for news and a strong understanding of social analytics.

Measures of success 

In the first few months:

  • Contribute to a rise in all key social KPIs (traffic, views and engagement).
  • Establish relationships with digital, programming and commercial teams.
  • Help develop Global’s social approach with the wider social media team.
  • Become the ambassador and driver of the companies’ wider social strategy within the Capital team.
     

Responsibilities of the role:

  • Stay on top of the latest trends and conversations with a focus on driving growth and relevancy of Capital content across all key social platforms.  
  • Contribute articles to Capital’s daily output. 
  • Generate ideas and produce social content with a strong focus on driving user interaction, sharing and web traffic. This should include multi-media content with a heavy focus on video across all platforms. 
  • Optimise Capital’s post engagement on social media using a variety of tools and processes such as A/B testing.
  • Build Capital's Instagram & TikTok audience alongside the Digital Content Producers.
  • Increase Capital’s social video views alongside the Digital Content Producers & Video Content Producer.
  • Adapting and optimising Capital’s content for social and focus on driving traffic to our website from social media. 
  • Focus on the growth and monetisation of Twitter videos.
  • YouTube optimisation and distribution along with the Video Content Producer and Digital Managing Editor.
  • Work closely with the branded content team to help develop, create and distribute market leading branded content on our social channels. 
  • Work closely with wider social team and Audience Development Director on the ongoing development of Global’s Feed First social strategy. 
  • Working closely with our broadcast team; sharing content ideas when needed.


What you will need

The ideal candidate will be proactive and willing to develop and implement innovative solutions, capable of the following: 

  • A great understanding of social and SEO analytics.
  • Fantastic communication skills.
  • High proficiency in Adobe Photoshop and Premiere.
  • A skill for writing captivating and engaging copy.
  • Able to meet deadlines in a fast-paced working environment.
  • Ability to work across multiple campaigns and adapt quickly to last minute changes.
  • A passion for all things pop culture and social media.
