Edit Assistant

Intermission Film now has an opportunity for a motivated and committed Edit Assistant with proven industry experience to join our London Edit Support team.

As we expand our weekend coverage, this role will be working weekend shifts within a five-day workweek schedule.

The ideal candidate will be a proactive and independent thinker, capable of supporting global staff during weekends by troubleshooting technical issues while efficiently managing assigned tasks.

This role requires strong self-motivation, excellent time management, and the discipline to thrive under fast-paced conditions and tight deadlines. Exceptional communication skills are vital, as you will serve as a key liaison between editorial and production teams.

Additionally, a keen awareness of security and responsibility regarding the media you manage is crucial.

This role is office-based.

What you'll be doing...

  • Ingest and transcode media, manage footage across various formats, and organise assets for offline editing workflows.
  • Sync audio tracks, create sync maps for multi-camera shoots, and align stems to picture accurately.
  • Export assets in multiple codecs and containers, ensuring they meet project-specific technical specifications.
  • Prepare finishing materials from locked sequences for distribution across different departments in the final post-production stages.
  • Prepare and conform media for online editing through manual cutting, overpasting, or relinking to native files.
  • Support GFX/VFX workflows by providing high-resolution plates from locked spots to the internal motion graphics team.
  • Manage multiple deliverable formats and resize footage to meet various social media aspect ratios and platform requirements.
  • Set up projects for both offline and online editing, maintaining organised folder structures and project files.
  • Conduct thorough quality control (QC) checks on all work, upholding high standards and taking ownership of deliverables.
  • Utilise editorial storage systems such as EditShare and Nearline, managing workspaces and permissions efficiently.
  • Archive completed projects using various storage solutions, including LTO, cloud-based platforms, and other systems.
  • Collaborate with global teams, manage tasks independently, and consistently meet deadlines. Troubleshoot technical issues related to software and hardware, escalating problems when necessary.
  • Support the Post Production Engineer with machine and system maintenance and upgrades.
  • Stay informed of industry technologies and workflows to enhance support across the business.
  • Provide guidance and local training to freelancers on bespoke workflows and processes.

What we need from you...
  • Experience with Avid Media Composer, Adobe Premiere Pro, and DaVinci Resolve.
Two years minimum full-time employment in post-production, as an assistant or operator.
  • A solid understanding of video formats, frame rates, codecs, colourspaces, audio configuration, camera rushes and folder structures.
  • A proactive approach to problem-solving, working closely with the Edit Assistants and Technical team to solve technical issues.
  • Highly organised and reliable, with strong time management skills.
  • Ability to excel in fast-paced environments, working independently or as part of a team.
  • Embraces challenges and views mistakes as opportunities for growth and learning.
  • A strong commitment to sharing knowledge, fostering team growth and ongoing support for continuous learning.
  • An enthusiastic and passionate film lover with strong communication skills, thriving in dynamic, global environments.
  • Professional-level written and spoken English.

Nice to have...
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a focus on diagnosing and troubleshooting both hardware and software issues.
  • Confident and proactive, with the ability to take initiative and lead when necessary.
  • Effective communicator with a collaborative mindset and a talent for fostering team collaboration.
  • Proficient in additional industry-related software tools.
  • At least 2 years of industry experience.
