Times Radio has shaken up the broadcasting firmament since launching in June 2020. As a live news radio station, we have built up a strong reputation for providing well-informed, thoughtful and intelligent news and discussion, covering the key stories of the day. We have combined the famous journalistic expertise of The Times and The Sunday Times with the radio experience of News Broadcasting to create a station that has around 600,000 weekly listeners. We have a world-class line-up of presenters talking to excellent guests, who value conversation over confrontation.
The Role:
You will be required to have laser-like focus and not be distracted with what can be a lively and noisy control room and newsroom. As part of the role, you’ll also work on the visualisation of talkSPORT, TALK and Virgin Radio. This role involves shift work, evenings and weekends.
Responsibilities:
Vision-mixing in a live broadcast environment
Visual content creation and Project Management
Correctly copying text on to on-screen graphics
Liaising with the Visual News Producer/Editor and grabbing assets from folders
Make sure presenters and guests are framed correctly and constantly checking the output
To be fully aware of all compliance issues including Ofcom, reporting restrictions, Imaging and Sports rights etc.
Take responsibility with what can be done to make our visuals look next level
Reporting technical issues through the appropriate channels
Constantly checking for breaking news and stories across current affairs, politics and sports
Maintaining the efficiency of Multicam (the playout software) and making sure that servers are rebooted and storage regularly checked and cleared.
What we’re looking for from you:
A passion for broadcast production with an ear for great audio and an eye for great video
In-depth knowledge of news, politics and sport
A creative mind, ability to think differently about new concepts for radio and visualisation
Great understanding and use of technology, with a willingness to embrace change and suggest new initiatives and ways of working
Strong attention to detail to ensure accuracy and spot and correct errors quickly.
Excellent communications skills, a strong team player but able to work well independently.
You thrive in fast-paced environments and are able to work quickly in small teams.
Experience of working closely with presenters and knowledge of how to engage with them positively.
Understanding of relevant broadcast compliance and legal issues.
Behaviours
Passionate about the work you do, embracing every opportunity to do your best work
Principled in the way you go about your role and the decisions you make
Purposeful with a strong desire to achieve and deliver work to a high standard
A willingness to grow and develop in your role.
