News Producer (part-time)

In this varied and busy role, you’ll be working across Lorraine, Loose Women and This Morning. 


You’ll be involved in the booking of newsmaking guests and exclusives, as well as both serious and light-hearted human interest stories.

Workplace: Office/Studio Based, London

3 days per week (Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, occasional Sundays)


You’ll need to be a tenacious self-starter with an impressive contacts book. You will have a journalistic background and excellent knowledge of current affairs, especially of the issues that matter to our viewers.


You’ll need to have an excellent grasp of the Ofcom Broadcasting Code and be proficient in overcoming legal hurdles to produce compliant items. You’ll be a team player, working collaboratively with other members of the Newsdesk, as well as with different departments across the programmes. You must have a flexible approach to work as you will be working to a shift pattern which will include weekends and bank holidays.

You must also have experience of working in a live broadcast environment. If you’d thrive on the buzz of securing exclusives and setting the news agenda on some of the country’s most talked about shows, we’d love to hear from you.

Skills you’ll need (minimum criteria)

  • Good journalistic experience within the broadcast industry and relevant experience within a newsroom environment
  • Experience of booking newsmaking guests
  • Previous experience at Producer level in a journalistic environment
  • Understanding of the importance of diversity to newsgathering and news content
  • Demonstrable knowledge of sources of information to ensure the team is fully informed of potential stories
  • Must possess a strong understanding of current affairs, topical stories and trends
  • An understanding about obtaining clearance, filming permissions, and the requirement for consent releases, compliance, and copyright regulations – including archive, stills, property, and music
  • Working experience and strong understanding of compliance and regulatory requirements (H&S, Data Protection, OFCOM and ITV Editorial Policy)
  • Strong understanding and adherence to daytime’s duty of care protocols
  • Ideas creation and experience generating a constant stream of ideas
  • Understanding of what makes good TV
  • Experience in a live studio environment.

  • Proven track record in creative journalism, editorially and visually, with the ability to follow a lead strategy in order to find the best stories to make compelling television
  • Delivers accurate presenter briefs and ensures all news content complies with legal regulations
  • Thinking creatively about news stories and how to approach them in a unique daytime way.
  • Possess a strong creative and editorial judgment for content creation
  • Experience of tracking and development of stories from initial contact, contributing to comprehensive and impactful reporting over time
  • Must be an ideas creator with a flair to spot trends and stories that will talk to our viewers and audiences
  • Proven experience of adapting news content quickly to breaking news and social media trends.


Communication:

  • Demonstrated competence to build up a strong network of local and national contacts.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills
  • Experience in communicating clearly, concisely, and confidently across all levels, fostering strong collaboration and alignment within the team and with stakeholders
  • Demonstrable effective stakeholder relationships with on screen presenters and experts agents, local and national contacts and external stakeholders
  • Has the aptitude to work in a demanding environment while keeping a calm approach and ensuring communication of creative vision with the team is clear
  • Ensuring communication with the team is respectful and encouraging
  • Experience of effectively communicating complex legal notes of stories to the wider team.


Planning & Organising:

  • Experience of forward planning and anticipate the need for editorial coverage
  • Responsive thinking with excellent judgmental and decision-making skills
  • Contributes to the editorial and creative vision of the News items for daytime
  • Has the aptitude to work in a demanding environment while keeping a calm approach
  • Organising the booking of guests and on screen experts on the show
  • Prioritises work, works to tight deadlines and stays calm under pressure.


Technical Skills & Knowledge:

  • An understanding of news planning websites/electoral role usage/social sites to source stories
  • An understanding of newsgathering via social channels
  • Excellent knowledge of journalistic law and Ofcom codes as they apply to news
  • Demonstrates good experience in utilising a network of contacts, including news and press agents, to acquire high-profile, first chats and exclusive interviews
  • An understanding and significant knowledge of OFCOM compliance issues relating to news content
  • Experience of setting up shoots for live, VT and social content
  • Knowledge of new technologies and new ways of working to ensure the team is ahead of the curve and on trend
  • Takes initiative in supporting the editorial process for assigned news stories, ensuring timely response to breaking developments and adherence to relevant legal standards, with guidance from senior team members.


Working with Others:

  • Contributes to team success through collaborative efforts
  • Good experience working alongside high profile onscreen presenters and on screen experts
  • Good experience of working alongside high profile celebrities, PR, Media and Publications companies
  • Experience of working with key contacts within relevant organisation such as but not limited to Government and Political Bodies, Parliamentary Offices, NHS, Public Health Agencies, Emergency services, Royal press offices, Legal and Justice System, Businesses and Corporations and International Organisations)
  • Good experience in maintaining and nurturing all stakeholder relationships.
