Operations Executive

As Operations Executive, you’ll lead Operations teams across the London estate at the heart of delivering some of the BBC’s most high profile and most watched content.

CONTRACT TYPE: 1x Permanent Contract
DEPARTMENT: BBC Media Operations (London)
LOCATION: London – Hybrid
PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: £64,000 – £75,000 per annum, depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights. You may also receive £5,441 London weighting allowance.

 

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

Working closely with senior editorial, visualisation and technical colleagues, you'll ensure the flawless delivery of broadcast output reaching millions daily.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT:

  • Lead and inspire multiple Operations teams working on all broadcast platforms, ensuring high performance, engagement, development and operational excellence
  • Partner closely with senior editorial and production leaders to deliver consistently high quality television output, including flagship output such as the BBC News at Six and Ten, Newsnight, BBC Arabic and Persian services and BBC News Live
  • Manage operational budgets, contracts and forecasting to deliver value for money and strong financial control across all areas of responsibility
  • Drive innovation by staying abreast of industry and technology developments, sharing best practice and embedding more efficient operational approaches
  • Foster a collaborative culture within Media Operations, working closely with teams across London and other BBC sites to maximise shared capability and expertise
  • Build constructive relationships with recognised trade unions, ensuring effective and proactive industrial relations
  • Take responsibility for risk management and safe operational delivery in a 24/7 broadcast environment, including some out of hours leadership duties.
     

YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:

  • Proven experience leading operational and/or content focused teams within a television environment
  • Strong understanding of television studio, gallery and broadcast operations
  • An empowering and motivating leadership style, with the ability to coach and develop others
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of influencing and collaborating with diverse teams and senior stakeholders
  • A proactive, accountable problem solver who can navigate complex operational challenges.
     

DESIRED BUT NOT REQUIRED:

  • Experience managing budgets, forecasting and contract negotiations
  • Understanding of global news or rolling news production environments
  • Experience fostering strong industrial relations with trade unions
  • Knowledge of new and emerging broadcast technologies
  • Familiarity with health & safety and regulatory requirements across broadcasting.
