As Assistant Editor, you will play a key role in shaping the editorial content and direction of the programme. You will support the Editor in overseeing the editorial output, ensuring accuracy, editorial integrity, and a sharp, engaging tone that speaks directly to our audience.


This is a hands-on role suited to an experienced broadcast journalist and producer , with a strong track record in live TV news.


It is an exciting opportunity to help drive a high-profile programme that covers major news stories from the UK, the US, and across the world, with energy, creativity, and a distinct voice.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate as a senior editorial producer , driving the programme’s agenda from initial planning through to live transmission

  • Support the Senior Editor in the editorial planning and production of The Late Show Live, ensuring the programme is relevant, timely, and distinctive

  • Lead the daily editorial meetings and guide a team of producers, researchers, and reporters to develop compelling content and segments

  • Write and edit scripts, headlines, and in-show graphics with clarity and flair, ensuring editorial accuracy and tone

  • React swiftly to breaking news and major developments, coordinating with UK and international teams to deliver informed coverage

  • Collaborate with on-air talent to shape interviews, monologues, debates, and panel discussions

  • Oversee the integration of live reports, guest interviews, and video packages into the show’s rundown

  • Ensure adherence to GB News editorial standards, legal and compliance frameworks, and broadcasting regulations

  • Act as the point of contact for the UK editorial team, ensuring consistent output across time zones and platforms

  • Deputise for the Editor when required.


Requirements:

  • Extensive experience as a broadcast journalist and/or producer in a live TV news or current affairs environment

  • A deep understanding of UK news, politics, and culture — with a strong grasp of US and international affairs

  • Strong editorial instincts combined with TV production experience and strong track record of shaping compelling content under tight deadlines

  • Outstanding scriptwriting and sub-editing skills

  • Confidence in handling breaking news and rapidly evolving stories

  • Experience working with studio production teams, technical crews, and on-air talent in a live broadcast setting

  • Strong leadership and team management skills with the ability to motivate and inspire junior staff

  • Flexibility to work late hours (live evening broadcast) and occasional weekends as required.


Desirable:

  • Familiarity with digital news platforms and social media storytelling

  • Experience working in or reporting on transatlantic or international news environments

  • Knowledge of UK broadcast compliance (e.g., Ofcom guidelines).
