FTC (until March 2027)

  • Salary: £31,554 - £33,477 per annum 
  • Fixed term – until 31 March 2027.

 

The Library and Learning Assistant will support the Library and Learning Manager in the provision of a proactive frontline service for all visitors to the Reuben Library.  The roles will undertake general library duties, such as basic cataloguing, shelving, tidying, processing and other stock maintenance and provide administrative support for learning activities in-venue at BFI Southbank.  

 

What you’ll do 

  • Fully participate in the rota allocation, including regular evening and weekend duties.  
  • As part of general reading room duty, answer library enquiries within an agreed timeframe; handle the registration of library users and direct other researchers as appropriate, deal with user requests for materials and assistance as required; deal with any frontline problems including IT and technical support for OPACS and scanning equipment
  • Carry out general library duties, including processing of new material, repairing or conserving older material, shelving, tidying, weeding, following missing book protocols
  • Process and supply materials from onsite and offsite storage and when necessary digitise material for delivery to the reading room or to remote users; contribute to the library usage statistics as required
  • Provide administrative support for learning activities, events and outreach programmes and assist with the smooth delivery of sessions and events when required. 

 

What you’ll bring 

  • Practical experience in a library, archive or similar information-focused setting, with an understanding of how users engage with collections, spaces and services.
  • A clear and demonstrable interest in libraries, archives and information management, with a proactive approach to developing relevant skills and knowledge in the role  
  • Experience in a public facing role  
  • A good general knowledge of film, television and the moving image, alongside an interest in the literature, history and cultural context that surrounds them 
  • A positive and collaborative work ethic, with a proactive approach to supporting colleagues, sharing knowledge and contributing to team success.
